History & Objectives
DETA's first meeting was held in Drogheda on 2/3/2000. At that time the EPA was preparing it's "waste water treatment manual for single house treatment systems".

Firstly, it was felt that our industry has an important contribution to make on this topic and that an Association was the most appropriate way of achieving this. In particular, we felt that septic tanks were, wrongly in our view, receiving preferential treatment from the EPA.

Secondly, it was felt that there was a need to introduce standards in the industry covering:
  1. System Design
  2. System Installation
  3. System Operation and
  4. Customer Service
Thirdly, we felt there was a need for an industry voice to talk with and influence Regulatory Authorities, Local Authorities the professions (engineering, architectural and legal) and the end users.
